Anyone Can Act
Merits: I agree that in order to act, you must relax and just believe what you’re doing is truth.
Challenges: Acting is not just a matter of keeping your shit together and then everything you do after that is fine. The audience is so much smarter than has been given credit here, if all you do is manage not to panic the audience will feel like something is off. If keeping your shit together includes learning and not forgetting lines, all the back-up research into time, place and persons and undergoing the emotional baggage of creating and sustaining an the entire complexities of another human than, yes, just keep your shit together and everything after will not matter.
Brand or Be Branded
Merits: I like the ideology that branding is not specifically a corporate thing and the idea that if you are not pro-active about telling others who you are, they will create who you are to the world for you. People want to believe what you tell them.
Challenges: How do you learn to brand yourself? This is a mighty task simplified into a “even dummy’s can do it” scenario, and how do we learn in this ever changing society how to make our own name.
Challenge Patriarchy as you Organize
Merits: I like the concept that feminism right now is not a revolutionary or collective struggle, so often it is minimized as a sensitivity. Even by my own family, have I often been forced to answer an often difficult question of is this a feminist issue that I should bring up or am I just complaining.
Challenges: How do we get this to be seen as a revolutionary struggle. If I can’t get my brothers and parents to see the difficulties I face in society that they have never had to encounter, how will others learn to listen?
