I really enjoyed the Maquilapolis documentary because it I learned about something that I didn't even know was going on. I am floored that these women who go from factory job to factory job enduring these terrible chemicals because they must support their family. This documentary highlighted the strength, willpower, and dedication that women have and how they are doing everything possible to provide. In light of our country's recent political events and outlook on women demonstrated by the president of the United States, this documentary really made me feel proud to be women. Although I have never been in their situation, I was damn proud that aside from bureaucracy and corruption of their government, these women were enduring the conditions AND fighting these major companies for the rights they lawfully have.
I liked how the artist of this piece helped the women's cause of gaining awareness to their conditions BY doing her art. Making this documentary sheds light on the situation and can only help these women change how they're being treated. When the artist interviewed civilians on their experiences and then directly contrasted that with clips of the officials perception, I found this tactic to be very informative. The stark contradiction illuminates the two sides and I appreciated having them right next to each other to really show this. Overall, this documentary was enlightening, informative, maddening, and empowering. For only being an hour, I cannot believe all of the different emotions I experienced.
