Megan Donahue - beautiful struggle - week 4

Anyone can act:
Personally I think that this principle is miss labeled, I think they are talking more about how to use lying in order to further your movement.  In this principle they talk about acting having two keys, rehearsing and keeping your shit together. I think rehersing is essential for acting but also any other job that requires public speaking or presenting. The second key " is to realize that once you’re up there, pretty much anything you do is going to be fine." Especifically in this section i think they are talking less about acting and more about using the phrase "fake it till you make it" as inspiration.

Media jacking:
I think media jacking or "subvert your opponent’s spectacle for your own purposes" can be very useful for smaller campaigns or movement who are just staring out because it is an easy way to become viral without having to shell out a bunch of money for a camera crew or a photographer. However I think it can also be dangerous because you may alienate some people because they feel they were used or taken advantage of. I think this tactic has the potential to create so much backlash that it doesn't seem like the risk is worth the reward.

Floating signifier:
This  is a "symbol or concept loose enough to mean many things to many people, yet specific enough to galvanize action in a particular direction." I think this is a really valuable way to popularize your movement. It can sum up your point in just a few words that will stick in peoples minds. We saw the success of this in Donal Trumps campaign with "Make America great again".  It was simple enough that it could get a lot of people on board without actually having to come up with the ways to improve America. In many ways this empty statement helped Donald Trump get elected because of course everyone wants America to be great.
