My ten Key Takeaways from this class (so far) would be:
- Active art talks but passive art talks just as loud sometimes.
- Why are we always afraid to question/critique/offer commentary?
- Continuing on, why do we silence ourselves? We all offer so many interesting perspectives so why shouldn't we share them?
- Sharing our stories and opinions that are informed by our pasts is oven vulnerable. Embrace it.
- There's always a bias, even when you can't see it.
- We are all blinded by our own biases. We should look at each other and see each others' biases and help everyone rise above them.
- Art inspires change in every level of life and it's not going to stop time for you to look at it and think it's pretty.
- Process is important and process infuses yourself into the art. The longer that you spend thinking, the more you can dig up to give to the project.
- If it's pretty, kings will look at it. If it's not pretty, the masses will scream along with it.
- Art matters. We, as theatre-makers and as artists, matter.
